Development Journey
An inside look at our engineering goals, execution methodologies, and final project outcomes.
Overview & Goal
To design a retail POS that ensures zero downtime for cashiers while keeping inventory accurate across multiple branches and integrating digital wallets.
- Sub-second item search and barcode registration at checkout
- Robust local storage caching to process transactions with zero internet connection
- Centralized store dashboard for managing pricing, taxes, and stock levels across outlets

Execution
We developed a React client utilizing IndexedDB for local offline storage, and synced data back to a Node/Express API with PostgreSQL via transactional batch synchronization.
- Optimistic UI updates to ensure cashiers experience instant response times
- IndexedDB database layer that buffers transactions and reconciles sync conflicts
- NFC and QR code scanner integration for seamless mobile wallet payments

Results
Cashiers could process more checkouts during peak hours. Synchronized data allowed operations managers to coordinate stock replenishment between branches efficiently.
- Increased peak hourly checkouts due to speedier search and scan actions
- Eliminated data discrepancies between storefront sales and backend inventory records
- Automated financial reconciliations, freeing accountants from manual reporting
